Thank you for visiting the Year 1 website page. This is the place for all the latest information regarding life in year 1 as well as the place to keep up to date with all of the exciting things we get up to. We hope you enjoy finding out what we have been learning about.

In Theme our topic has been ‘People Who Help Us’.  We had a visit from PC Luke who came and told us all about his job as a policeman.  We asked him a range of questions using our question openers – who, what, where, when and why.  We found out lots about being a policeman and some of us want to be police men/women when we are older!

In Theme we looked at ‘Florence Nightingale’.  She was a nurse who helped improve the conditions of hospitals.  We used nurse’s costumes to role play being a nurse and patients.

In Maths we have been looking at ‘Positional Language’.  We had to listen to our teacher’s instructions and follow them correctly.  E.g. ‘Put the beanbag inside the hoop.’

We were learning about the Great Fire of London. We created pictures using different materials and matchsticks. We learnt lots about what happened in London in 1666.

As part of our Far and Wide topic we visited the Transport Museum!

We have been learning about where money comes from. Children worked in pairs, each pair was given a purse and some coins to record their answers on. Children had to record where they thought money comes from, how they earn money and how adults in their family earn money. We discussed how people have to work to earn money or they have support from the Government through benefits.

Help! Beegu has crashed into our Rainbow Room!

This half term we are learning about the book Beegu and look what has happened!

What questions would you ask Beegu to find out what happened?
