At Bordesley Green primary school our aim is to ensure that our children are naturally curious about the world they live in. Science enables children to have a better understanding of the world around them and is therefore an excellent tool for harnessing this curiosity. It allows children to explore and investigate, whilst establishing within them an appreciation and respect for life and scientific phenomena.

As a school we follow the National Curriculum The aims of the National Curriculum for science are to ensure all children:

At Bordesley Green Primary School, Science is taught as part of a themed curriculum. Every year group teaches a number of Science dominated topics which allows the children's learning to be linked to other subject areas. This allows for deeper understanding of the subject and more meaningful learning.

In Foundation Stage the children will focus on the same areas of study through their Early Years curriculum particularly in the prime are of ‘Physical Development (Health and Self Care)’ and the specific area of ‘Understanding the world'. The children take part in a range of practical activities which allow them to explore different scientific ideas and use observation as a way of investigating and exploring the world around them.

If you would like any further information regarding the teaching of Science at Bordesley Green Primary School please contact Mrs Harris, Miss Holloway or Mrs Johnson.
